Accelerator and Hall Status
- 4th pass separator has prevented beam to Hall A since Wed afternoon. Repairs are underway and will continue today. Expectation is to begin beam restoration around noon on Friday
- SL shifts cancelled for Thurs Swing, Friday OWL. TOs must report as planned.
- GEM layer was successfully replaced yesterday (Wed)
- 2 bad APV cards identified yesterday and fixed today
- CODA pedestal configuration and Analyzer DB updates in progress
- Hall has been in Controlled Access since Wed evening with some periods in Power Permit
- A set of cosmics runs were completed with 4 combinations of SBS and BB on/off (while under 'Power Permit')
- Grinch runs taken with LED pulser enabled
- NOTE: Some interaction between LED pulser and DAQ complicated this -- kudos to Maria for keeping and eye on this last night!
- Thresholds and latencies for HCAL and BBCAL updated for good cosmics triggers
- Grinch runs taken with LED pulser enabled
Additional details in sub-section notes below.
We are still planning to move to SBS-11 starting Monday, November 22. That will be a ~2 day configuration change in the Hall (Mon/Tue) followed by a Pass change (Hall A 4-->5) on Wed Nov 24.
Pending Issues
- Need to ensure the following before restarting production:
- HCAL latencies restored [Done]
- BBCAL and HCal Thresholds restored
- Confirm new UV layer HVs are in the alarm handler and are being logged/monitored correctly
- GEM pedestals evaluated and loaded/tested for online pedestal suppression
- GEM tracking software / analyzer updated and ready?
- Restore Grinch LED pulser to 10 Hz [Done]
- Upcoming shift schedule issues https://misportal.jlab.org/mis/physics/shiftSchedule/?experimentRunId=GMn-2021
- Will try to arrange for a Hall walkthrough Friday morning for Weibin (and perhaps Konrad)?
- Several open TO positions starting Nov 24
- emailed Albert to confirm he is OK for Sat/Sun OWL shifts (schedule indicates trade requested)
- Bogdan has agreed to pick up those shifts [Done, shift schedule updated]

- HCAL:
- HV issues from yesterday have been resolved; HV in good shape
- BBCAL and HCAL thresholds back to production settings
- HCAL latencies set back to standard settings
- HCAL timing investigated (LOG)
- similar plot requested from FADC timing to compare with 'real' TDC time
- more to come
- BBCal:
- First look at runs with different combinations of BB and SBS magnets on
- general gain matching is looking uniform across the detector
- will follow up with details on observed impact of fringe field
- Timing hodoscope:
- Request to continue cosmics
- working on RF alignment
- Grinch:
- Pulser resetting has been returned to 10 Hz
- Study of LED data taken under different BB+SBS conditions underway
- GEMS:
- J2 layer swapped with UVa U-V layer; 2 faulty APVs addressed
- Online DB (zero suppression) completed
- Analyzer DB updates are in progress; DB updated with new geometry, etc completed; Some preliminary track analysis from Cosmics data were done. Basic functionality checks out, but Andrew is working through the punch list.
- When beam returns
- Plan for an HV scan on the new layer when beam returns
- Take short run at low current to check 'best case' tracking
- Beamline:
- David F is looking at scaler sanity checks with Paul
- DAQ:
- Alex was going to look at the instability associated with the GRINCH LED
