Current Status
- Beam is very stable and we are taking production data at 22.5uA!
- The target cryo flow is a bit unstable possibly due to the ongoing work on ESR. TO is working with Chandan Ghosh (the target expert on-call) to keep things up and running.
Run plan for Today
- Production on LH2 @ 22.5 uA
- PS10=0, PS16=9
- Config: "GEp-5-3Stream-NoHcalScalers"
- Thresholds: ECAL = 60%, HCAL = 30%
- Four hours runs
- 5k replay every 15 minutes
- Monitor Scaler Rates
Things Needing Immediate Attention
- Tomorrow is maintenance day. Beam will be taken away at 6:45 am. RadCon (and techs) will be here at 7:15 am and take the hall to controlled access as soon as possible. Experts seeking access are requested to inform me as soon as possible. Currently, I have the following access requests:
- Installation of Cu plate
- Requested RadCon to measure the dose at the area of interest.
- Who will do it? - Bogdan said he will.
- CDET -- LV supply issue (Ben Spaude, 10am preferred)
- HCAL -- FADC module replacement (??)
- ECAL deinstallation planning (Chandan Ghosh, No time preference)
- GEM (??)
- Installation of Cu plate
- Hall B wants to change the state of IHWP. Will that be alright?
Key Updates from Yesterday
- Yesterday was the most productive day in my RC tenure so far! We raised beam current up to 22 uA collecting 1.47 C on LH2.
- Around noon, a couple of hours after raising the beam current, there was an issue with low 15K flow to the hall. It forced us to reduce the beam current back to 18uA temporarily. But the experts are continuously working to fix the issue making sure no impact in data taking.
- Early swing shift, CH disks filled up due to the increased data rate forcing us to reduce the beam current to 10uA temporarily.
- Alex resolved it by increasing the frequency of file transfer to MSS (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4389104). He went from 2hrs to 30mins and then eventually to 15mins.
- Ole was on shift and later he noticed that computer center was not being able to keep up with the transfer. So, he made a temporary update to the MSS file transfer script enforcing asynchronous duplication of the files at tape. https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4389298
- Mid-swing shift SL (Dulitha Jayakodige) noticed missing ECAL VTP channels in a 5k and notified the DAQ experts. Ben identified the issue quickly and provided instructions to resolve it.
- I have added these instructions to "Fixing the DAQ" section. On Wednesday, Ben will update the readout list to send an error message to the RC GUI with these instructions. https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4389163
- Early owl shift DAQ issues persisted! Ole promised to investigate the issue whenever he gets a chance.
- Adam Schoene at MCC added a flag to the SBS magnet GUI to indicate the status of the GEM HVs. This flag instructs operators to contact Hall A CH before ramping the SBS magnet up or down if the GEM HVs are ON, in order to avoid unexpected GEM HV trips. Many thanks to Adam and Doug for their help with this. https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4389243
Accumulated Charge
- Total Accumulated Charge at Kin3 so far: 14.28 C (Goal: 100 C)
- Total Accumulated Charge at Kin3 since Wednesday May 28 Swing: 6.53 C
Current Issues
- Very high data rate. File is being transferred every 15 minutes. It might become hard to keep up with the 5K/50K replays every 20 mins. Alex proposed making CODA launch a replay at the start of a of a new split automatically.
- Lower than optimal beam current.
- Some progress has been made. Today the beam current was increased from 18 to 22uA. We will wait to hear from Andrew tomorrow.
- Sever DAQ crashes early owl shift
- Ole will take a look.
- Counting house access to /cache (gateway??) (Helpdesk ticket in)
- Talked to Ole. He mentioned it is one of those hard-to-debug issues, so computer center will probably sit on it for a long time. Better to make alternative arrangements.
- CDET LV issues
- It will be looked into on the maintenance day.
Shifts
- Next available: June 7th and 8th, OWL
Subsystem Updates
- ECal:
- Mostly stable. Missing 4 channels in recent replay. Cause is not clear. Jhih-Ying is investigating. - Any update?
- One of them just has lower gain.
- Mostly stable. Missing 4 channels in recent replay. Cause is not clear. Jhih-Ying is investigating. - Any update?
- HCal:
- GEMS:
- CDET:
- Will troubleshoot the LV supply issue and work on adjusting the latency.
- DAQ:
- On slack, Alex mentioned, "Eric mentionned it would be good to add ROC number for VTP and VME CPU for ecal crates
8:35. it took a bit of time to find the correspondinf vtp crate".
- Kip will work will Alex to update the name of the CODA components in the RC GUI.
- Analysis Software
- Andrew submitted replay jobs for Kin3 runs taken w/ 5,10, and 15uA. Going very slowly. - Andrew will optimize the cuts and rerun the jobs.
- GEM alignment analysis is still ongoing.
Beam Restoration Procedure
- Standard: Use new "cross target" (1x1 mm "+" shape) for beam restoration as described in https://sbs.jlab.org/wiki/index.php/HOW_TOs#Beam_Recovery_Procedure_for_GEp
- Quick version: Move to 5mm C hole, ask for 5 uA, record HCAL rate (~ 8 kHz). Turn on 2 x 2 mm raster, rate increase should be small (~100 Hz) if any. Example: https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4382851 Rate Scan: https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4382121
Beam requirements
- start off at 5 pass beam
- intrinsic beam size (at target): 150–600 µm
- raster size: 2 mm X 2 mm
- During kin#3 SBS magnet will be at 1762.23 Amp, the corrector magnets at -80A for all.
- production run @ 18 µA for now
- For later
- production beam current : 50 µA
