Summary
Attempted to ramp up beam current to 12 uA on LD2 last night. GEMs behaved fine at first glance so we stayed there for the night.
There was a gas/fire alarm in Hall C SHMS gas hut which, by procedure, made MCC take beam away and evacuate counting house. Fortunately no damage to Hall C (besides time loss of 3 hours for them), but beam was unavailable for 1 hour.
We resumed production after, and run relatively smoothly until 6:30am. Then, GEM induced DAQ issues prevented us to take any data. We called for an escorted access to fix the issue: https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4298629 Production resumed at (10:50am) 11:40am.
It was determined by David that the increase of current from 10 to 12uA was not providing the expected gains in statistics - let alone the decrease in productivity due to DAQ issues. Therefore, we decided to resume data taking with 10 uA.
Planned Access to the Hall
Access Thursday:
- GEMs work:
- swap power supplies for currently non-working modules (e.g. rear GEM module 0)
- possibly, swap non-working APVs on rear GEM modules;
- Active analyzer:
- remove signals splitters and send full signal to ADC;
- adjust side polarimeter thresholds;
- ECal:
- get more channels in the ECal readout
Accelerator
Plan unchanged from yesterday:
- Hall C pass change + Wien angle change on Thursday;
- no Wien angle change next Tuesday for Hall A pass change;
- Accelerator beam studies currently scheduled on May 19th starting at 7am
Current Run Plan
Take data at 10 uA for production on LD2: BBCal threshold at -350 mV and HCal threshold at -10 mV for now. Once per shift, take a 1-hour run at 15 uA on LH2 with the production settings. See also Experiment run plans.
